Google is to launch a modular phone in place of smartphone. Ara is the first ever phone made by google. The Ara frame contains all the functionality of a smartphone in addition to flexible slots for easy swapping. It allows for upgrades, innovation and style.
The concept is a simple one where you can buy a basic model Ara phone and all the bits can be pulled and swapped. Each module can be bought through Google’s dedicated store. Some of the components that can be bought includes things like memory, display panels, physical keyboards, sensors and scanners, ports, modems and wireless modules, and much, much more.
The Ara frame is built with durable latches and connectors to keep modules secured. The Ara frame contains the CPU, GPU, antennas, sensors, battery and display, freeing up more room for hardware in each module. Now the firm has revealed a developer model will be released in Autumn of 2016.
